Octopus Fan Club Competition - Climb a wind turbine!
Have you ever wondered where you can find the best views of the Welsh valleys? Well, it's at the top of our No.2 Fan!
A short while ago, we ran an Octopus Fan Club competition where one lucky person won a weekend away at our Number 2 Fan in Wales, as well as the opportunity to climb right to the top of the turbine and check out the views!
To see out how Sasha (our brave winner!) got on with her turbine climb, check out the video at the end of this blog! But first…let’s hear a little bit from Sasha about her experiences in the Octopus Fan Club, thoughts on wind turbines and trying to be environmentally conscious.
What has your experience been like with the Octopus Fan Club?
“Really really positive! We save money on our energy but also we’re using renewable energy as well which is excellent for the environment. We’re trying to do our little bit - so saving money and doing our best for the environment at the same time.”
How has the Fan Club helped you save on your energy bills?
“We can see when the Fan is either 50% off or 20% off on our energy. We will try and plan when we’re going to do our washing and drying, hoover, and even shower because we have an electric shower, so just trying to be a little more conscious about when we use our energy during the day. We also have a look at the weather forecast to see when it’s windy & when it’s not so that we can try to plan a little better.”
How has having a wind turbine in your community influenced the way that you live your life and how you think about being environmentally conscious?
“I think it’s eye opening to think about how much of an impact they do have in terms of generating the energy. It’s made me really conscious of the energy we’re using and when we’re using it and just how amazing the wind turbines are in terms of being able to produce that power and generate the energy that we need.”
Have you ever been this close to a turbine before?
“Not this close! It’s exciting & daunting but I’m really excited to be able to go up!”
