The Octopus Fan Club brings local wind power to communities across the UK - with tens of thousands more interested in getting a Fan Club near them.
We've made a dashboard exclusively to help Fan Club members get to grips with their very own turbine and maximise their Fan Club membership.
Members can track their live discounts, wind speeds, turbine power output and rotor speed. On top of this, forecast data allows members to plan ahead and shift their energy consumption to when it's cheapest and greenest.
With this forecast data, we've also introduced Fan Club push notifications...
What are Fan Club Push Notifications & how do they work?
At around 8-9am every morning, we automatically check the discount forecast for members. If it's likely there is a 50% discount window that day, we'll send out a push notification to let members know. If there isn't a 50% discount window, we won't send out a notification. It's as simple as that!

In order to receive Fan Club push notifications, members need to make sure that notifications are enabled on both their device and the Octopus app. Members should also make sure they have the most up to date version of the Octopus App installed (V4.20) - this can be updated via the Google/App store.

In the Octopus App, you do this by clicking Account > Notifications > Enable Notifications.
In iOS you do this by clicking Settings > Octopus App > Notifications > Allow Notifications.
If you already receive notifications from Octopus, then it's likely these are already switched on. Don't worry, if you don't want to receive a discount notification at all, you are able to switch these off.
Why are the notifications set up this way?
Our most recent member survey revealed that the majority of Fan Club members wanted a discount notification once a day, in the morning - so this is what we've gone with! When we send out a notification, we also want to make sure we're as confident as possible that there will be a discount window - this is why we make sure members only get a notification if the 50% discount window is at least 3 consecutive hours.
Do members still need to check the Fan Club dashboard?
Yes, it's still a good idea for members to use the Fan Club dashboard. Unfortunately, we can't predict the weather with 100% certainty. These notifications are enough to get planning your energy use, but be mindful that these predictions do not guarantee members a discount at a set time. For a look at the 'estimated live discount', members should use their Fan Club dashboard.
Members should keep checking back on their dashboard to make sure they're not missing out on 20% discount windows and any 50% opportunities that escape the morning notification.
